Institute Description

PSG IM in its earliest avatar was a department and a part of the PSG Institute of Technology. Its genesis was in 1971 and metamorphosed into a full-fledged institute in 1994. The 40-year pedigree makes it one of the pioneering management education initiatives in South India.

A full-time two-year MBA programme with approval of the Government of India was introduced in 1971, with affiliation to the University of Madras, the first of such a programme in South India. The department was upgraded and was named PSG Institute of management, as part of the PSG College of Technology, in the year 1995, with a view to enabling the Institute to grow into a full-fledged management institute to offer academic and research programmes and Management Development Programmes and consultancy services. Pioneering has, thus, characterized the birth, growth and development of the PSG Institute of Management.

Coimbatore, a.k.a Kovai, provides a great environment for PSGIM to nurture its status and stature. The entrepreneurial buzz has made this city amongst the fastest growing in India. Apart from the l strengths of the pump and textile sectors which the city traditionally has had, it is also now emerging as an educational and medical hub of India. It is truly cosmopolitan in its texture and has gathered the best of India plc into its fold. PSG IM is unique in many ways. For example, the students are taught Japanese and French.

They come here with eager faces, curiosity written bright in their eyes. When they leave, we hope they take back with them, the knowledge they came here to gain.

The student life is a kaleidoscope of learning, fun and enjoyment. On the academic front, the trimester system ensures that the students are exposed to a wide variety of subjects within the two year course framework.

At the PSG IM, the accent is on value based learning. Thus, in addition to the rigorous academic schedules, the extra curricular front at PSG IM offers ample scope fro learning through the lighter vein.
Clubs and associations for the students lend the learning atmosphere a lively and intellectually challenging mood. There is a club for the ad-maniacs, one for the nature lovers and another for the quiz wizards. This apart, those who can shake a leg join the dance club and turn up at every cultural event hosted by the institute.
Hot favourites of the students include the Learning Resource Centre and the internet facilitated computer lab. Students play an active role in the Corporate Relations Cell, volunteering to liaison between the recruiters and the institute during the time of campus interviews.

The Learning Resource Centre at the PSG IM spreads over 7500 sq. ft of well constructed space. Over 30,000 books on all the possible areas of management and associated studies find their way to the bookshelves at the PSG IM library. The centre subscribes to over 300 journals. 10 newspapers, including the London Financial Times are available all the year round to facilitate state-of-the-art learning experiences.

Institute History

The genesis of the Institute can be traced to the establishment of the Department of Management Sciences in the year 1966 at the PSG College of Technology. Dr G R Damodaran, the Founder-Principal of the college on surveying the increasing number of small-scale industrial units functioning in and around Coimbatore (promoted by technocrats – many of them being the old students of his own Engineering college) felt the need for providing them with concepts and techniques related to the area of business management. To meet the need, a department of Management Sciences was created and a 3 year part-time Post Graduate Diploma course in Business and Industrial Management, affiliated to the University of Madras, was introduced in 1966.

The MBA programme at PSG Institute of Management (PSG IM) is intensive and rigorous, attracting participants with a high level of motivation and work ethic. Our management students graduate having successfully learned how to work under high pressure, set priorities, manage their time, and effectively work in teams while delivering under tight deadlines.

One of the most direct ways of recruiting from PSG IM is to make a presentation followed by an open discussion. This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about you and to meet your organisation. We would be happy to welcome you to our campus. The campus recruitment programme is conducted in two sessions, the first from mid November to mid December and the second from mid January to mid February.

The type of information you will need to provide includes

• Job description, including educational background, specialization, experience and personal characteristics required, and other selection criteria important to you, e.g. languages and work authorisation
