School Description

The Army Public School Dagshai nestling atop the Dagshai Hills was the brain child of Lt. Gen K Sunderji PVSM, GOC-in-C, Western Command and Lt. Gen. Ranjit Singh Dayal, PVSM, MVC, COS, Western Command and became a reality on 01st June 1986..

A co-educational residential school, the Army Public School, Dagshai is affiliated to the CBSE, New Delhi and is a member of the Indian Public Schools' Conference (IPSC). It is the first institution of its kind, which was setup by the Army with the specific aim to provide quality education to the children of the Army Personnel. 

The APS Dagshai is amongst the best-equipped residential schools in India. The educational objectives and the methodology of teaching are entirely different and it focuses on learner oriented education, value based and with stress on developing life skills, thus giving it a holistic dimension.

The general thrust of school is: learning by doing, discipline and decorum, healthy student-teacher relationship and sensitizing the individual on vital human concerns.

The school has rich resource reservoirs as regular teacher empowerment programs and students enrichment programs are organized throughout the year.

The Army Public School Dagshai was founded on 1st June 1986 under the aegis of Headquarters Western Command of Indian Army in order to provide quality education on public school lines to the talented wards of defense personnel and civilians. The school admits boys and girls as boarders and day-scholars from class V to class XII. A co-educational residential English medium school, affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) New Delhi, APS, Dagshai is a member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC). It is the only institution of its kind set up by the Army with the specific aim to provide quality education to children of the Armed Forces. Some seats have been reserved for civilians and NRIs as well. The Army Public School, Dagshai is a living dream of many visionaries who have right from its inception nurtured, moulded, nourished and directed it with great care and painstaking efforts. The hard work, the dedication and the unflinching loyalty of the staff and students make it a lovable and a memorable place.

The school campus covers an area of approximately 40 acres. The main academic and administrative buildings of the school form a hollow square with offices on one side. The classrooms are designed to accommodate 32 to 35 students. State of the art computer and science laboratories are housed in spacious and well-designed large rooms. A well-stocked library-cum-reading serves as a haunt for those who crave for intellectual nourishment and information of all kind. The expansive campus, a large playing field and the beautiful school buildings provide an environment, which is aesthetically pleasing and conducive to both work and play. The residential wing houses boys and girls comfortably in separate buildings. Girls' dormitories, along with common rooms, are located in a healthy and serene environment with proper security arrangements. The refectory with attached kitchen is equipped with modern cooking facilities.

Atmosphere

The school is conceived and maintained as a happy and harmonious blending of the best in Public Schools' traditions, with following objectives:

(a) To provide broad based and relevant education, which should culminate in the attainment of the fullest natural growth of the individual leading to a balanced harmonious, useful and natural life.

(b) To rear conscientious and responsible citizens with a healthy desire for knowledge, adventure and exploration.

Admission are on the basis of a written entrance test taken on third Sunday of February at various centres. No child can appear in the test unless he/she has been registered.

The last date of registration for admission to classes V,VI,VII is 31st December of the previous year & for rest of the classes is February end.

The school prospectus with application form for registration and one set of sample question papers can be obtained by sending Rs 300/- by Cash/IPO/Bank Draft Payable at Dagshai or Chandigarh. The lowest class in the school is class V. The school is run primarily for the children of serving Army Personnel at subsidised expenditure. Some seats are offered to the children of war widows and ex-servicemen also. All other categories are treated as civilians.

The syllabi provided in the school prospectus are for admission to classes V, VI and VII because our normal entry points are classes V, VI and VII. For class VIII and above, it depends upon the chance vacancies arising due to withdrawals etc at the time of admissions. Registration for classes V to VII is open through out the year. Admissions to these classes are done on the basis of the performance in the Entrance Test.
