In the year 1974, a group of like-minded people of BJB Nagar, committed to the cause of education; laid the foundation of an English Medium School named after one of the worthy sons of the soil, freedom fighter and martyr Buxi Jagabandhu. On 15th January 1974, it took its birth in the lap of Late Mrs.O.Littlewood as the lone teacher in a garage of a private residence, with only 25 students on the roll. Today with the roll strength of around 3000 students, we have successfully entered the 30th year of existence and celebrate this success with the hosting of the official website of our school.
A ten member managing committee was formed which had its first meeting on 24th January,1974. In June,1974 when Class-I was started, therewas increase in student strength and a separate private building was taken on rent to provide the required accommodation. In August, 1974 the management of the school was entrusted to Lion's Club, Bhubaneswar.
While the Lion's Club was the custodian of the school it took initiative to get the land allotted for the construction of the school building in August,1978. The school grew in size as years passed by with consequent increase in the work load. At this stage, it was decided to form a separate registered society with the name "Buxi Jagabandhu Education Society" and the school was handed over to the society for better functioning.
The school was initially affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education, Orissa and the first batch of Class-X students appeared at the Board Examinations in 1983. The school was later affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi. The first batch of Class-X students appeared at the CBSE Final Examination in 1986.
Today this is the largest school in the state, which can be compared with hardly one or two other schools to have achieved the growth like ours besides the standard of education being imparted here.
